Mostly heavy overcast and wet. There were a few breaks, but mostly conditions seemed to vary between light drizzle, drizzle, and rain showers. Temperatures were in the upper 50s, making it feel much more like summer rain than spring rain.
As I write this in the evening, it looks like the day will end up with around 0.8 inches of rain, bringing the month’s total to over 5 inches. This is above the average May precipitation total of a bit under 4 inches. Sometimes more important than the numbers is the qualitative perception. I would have guessed we had more rain than we’ve had.
This time of year is when we expect to see weather that passes for sunny and dry around here. This May has seen only two days that rated as much as mostly sunny, and an additional three that rated mostly cloudy. The remainder were classified as cloudy or scattered showers.
I didn’t get out much today. My outside time was limited to a drive out the road this evening (which included a brief stop to check out Swan Lake). While inside, I did make good progress catching up on the last week’s worth of photojournals (so this one will be actually published pretty close to its advertised time).
While out, I noticed Cascade Creek and Indian River both running at higher than normal levels, but still well below flood stage.
A Song Sparrow has been singing from a couple of different locations around the yard. I’m not sure if it’s the same one, or a couple of different ones, though I’ve been thinking it’s the same one. I wonder if it’s working on a second brood attempt, and will nest in the yard somewhere.
