The Sanderling (Calidris alba) is not quite as large as a Dunlin (Calidris alpina). Sanderling (Calidris alba) I noticed this Sanderling (Calidris alba) look up at the sky several times. Presumably it was looking for predators. The Sanderling (Calidris alba) is distinctly larger than the Western Sandpipers (Calidris mauri). This is the first Sanderling (Calidris alba) I have seen. They are apparently rare along the road system. Western Sandpiper (Calidris mauri) at Totem Park. Western Sandpiper (Calidris mauri) at Totem Park. Western Sandpiper (Calidris mauri) at Totem Park.
