park

Today when I went down to the park, it was cloudy and windy and raining a little bit. When I was by the breakwater, I saw four female goldeneyes and one duck that was on a patch of grass. When I was by sage beach, I saw a lot of shorebirds and some seagulls on sage rock. When I was nearing the park, I saw a group of goldeneyes out on the water by the shore. When I was in the park, I saw a squirrel in the trees. When I was at the battle site bench, it was high tide and I saw no seagulls. When I was by the trail by the river, I saw some seagulls farther out on the water. When I was on the trail by the river, I saw someone on the other side of the river walk out of the forest and pick something wight off the ground then walk back into the forest, scaring away some of the ducks. When I was on my way back home, I saw some juncos and a squirrel in a tree.
What did that person on the other side of the river pick up off the ground?
Why were there no seagulls at the battle site bench?
Why did some of the ducks not fly off?

When I was by the trail by the river, I saw a lot of seagulls out by the other side of the river. When I was on the trail by the river, I saw some ducks and a merganser on the other side of the river. When I was on the trail by the foot bridge, I saw some mergansers fly up the river. When I was on my way back home, I saw a thrush.
Why was there only one goldeneye by the breakwater?
Why did the mergansers fly up the river?
Why was the group of goldeneyes by the park?
Happy Halloween!

When I was on the on th trail by the river, I saw some ducks and two wigeons on the other side of the river. When I was at the end of the park trail, I saw that the banana peal that I watched a squirrel drag op the tree and onto a branch was still there. Yesterday I had seen a squirrel drag it up the tree and eat some of it.
Why did there seem to be so many seals at the park today?
Why did the squirrel drag the banana peal up the tree?
How did the boat move over to the other side of the river?

Lake Birds

Today I went down to the lake to see what was down there. When I got down there I saw some ring necked ducks and a pied billed grebe. The ring necked ducks started to swim away and so did the pied billed grebe but the pied billed grebe did not swim as far away as the ring necked ducks did. The pied billed grebe hung out in a patch of dead weeds with some mallards as well. There were a lot of ring necked ducks down at the other end of the lake in the dead lily pads. I also saw the male wood duck down at the lake but the mane bird I was interested in was the pied billed grebe. I took some photos of it then I let dad know it was down by the peninsula. I went and sat down on a beach after letting dad know it was down there and watched it and took some more photos of it and just sat there and watched it for a while taking photos of it very now and then when the pied billed grebe was in a bit better spot for photos. Dad stopped by a bit later o his way to do something else and saw the pied billed grebe after he saw it I went up the lake a bit further to look at the ring necked ducks then I went home.

  1. Question was this pied billed grebe the same one I saw earlier this fall?
  2. Question when did all the ring necked ducks show up at the lake?
  3. Question how long will the wood duck stay here for?pied-grebe-jpg-jpg pied-grebe-jpg pied-grebe

park

Today when I went down to the park it was cloudy mostly cloudy. When I was by the breakwater, I saw some seagulls and ducks. When I was by sage beach, I saw some ducks, seagulls and goldeneyes. When I was in the park by a opening, I saw a bufflehead out in the water that had just come up from diving. When I was at the battle site bench, I sat on the bench foe a bit. It was high tide and there was only a small patch of beach. Some seagulls were on that patch of beach, most of the time they were in the sunlight so I could not see what they looked like as well. When I was on the trail by the river, I saw some seagulls, ducks and a wigeon out in the water. When I was nearing the end of the trail by the river, I saw that most of the rotting fish had been moved off the trail, but some bits of it were still on the trail. I stepped on one of those bits, on accident. When I was on my way home, I heard some juncos in some bushes.
Why had most of the fish been moved but some of it stayed on the trail?
Why did I have to step on one of the fish bits?
Why was there only one bufflehead out in the water, that it saw anyways.

Trip to Indian River

This morning Grandpa and I went up indian river to pick cranberries. I took the rifle along in case we saw a deer. We left a bit earlier this morning then we did yesterday we went down to look in to  the salmon hole that is below the indian river road bridge. There were a lot of cohos in the hole. After that we went to the trail head of indian river and worked our way up. On our way up the trail I saw several sets of fresh deer tracks in the mud that was either by or on the trail. We went up past the first big bridge and we went of the trail just before the second big bridge. We went through the tree forest then popped out in to the muskeg. There was quite a bit of deer sine but I did not seen any deer there. We ate lunch then I went all the way up to the far end of the muskeg and sat there for about an hour or an hour and a half. Then I head back tords where grandpa had been. On my way down to the muskeg I found a bunch of deer hair all over the ground. It look like some thing had gotten the deer either a bear got the deer or some one shot the deer and left the hide and the head with the gut pile and a bear got the gut pile either way a bear had been there eating the deer and all that I found was part of a deer head (that told me the deer had been a yearling buck)and a hole bunch of hair. When it was time to go we headed out a different way then we had come in at so we went through a bit more brush then I would have like but we got back to the trail any ways. When we were down the trail a little ways there was a hole that had a bunch of cohos in it and just a little after that we saw a river otter heading tords the fish hole but did not get to see it fish then we went home.

  1. Question how much does that river otter hang out up there?
  2. Question how many fish does that river otter get at thet hole?
  3. Question where were all the deer?

park

Today when I went down to the park, it was sunny and a little bit cloudy and cold. When I was on the breakwater, I saw some seagulls and ducks. When I was near the park, I sat down on a metal bench and watched three shorebirds on the beach. One of the shorebirds ran and flew off and two of them stayed on the beach. They were using their beaks to move and lift up the seaweed to look for food. When I got up off the bench to leave they flew off. When I was in the park, I heard some ravens and kinglets. When I was at the battle site bench, the tide was going out, and I saw some seagulls out by the water. When I was nearing the trail by the river, I saw a squirrel in the forest. When I was by the trail by the river, I saw some seagulls out in the water. When I was on the trail by the river, I saw more seagulls and some ducks. When I was near the end of the trail by the river, the rotting fish was still there and it smelled bad. When I was on my way back home, I saw some ravens.
Why was the rotting fish still there?
Why were the shorebirds looking under the seaweed for food?
Why was it cold in the morning?

Trip Up Indian River

Today Grandpa and I went up indian river to pick cranberries. I took the rifle with me just in case we saw a deer. We hiked up to a muskeg up a little was from the second big bridge. It took us about an hour to an hour and a half to get up there. It was a nice sunny day but it was a bit cooler in the shade grandpa pick cranberries while I looked for deer. After A while though I pick a few cranberries as well. We were up there for about three hours we got quite a few cranberries while we were up there. I also saw that some one had gotten a deer a few years ago because I found a deer head and the trees with the antlers cut off of it. I did some exploring while I was up there I found a well used bear trail I also saw where some one had shot down a tree and the bears were rubbing there sides on it. The wind was swirling in the muskeg up there so it was a little hard to stay in a spot where the deer could not smell me. I did sit in place for a while though to see if any deer would show them selves but nun did. On our way back up the muskeg to the trail I saw a tree that looked like it was really dirty on a section of the trunk. I went and looked and it was dirty because bears had been rubbing there backs on it I even could see where the bears would stand to rub there back.

  1. Question why do bears only use certain trees and stumps to rub there backs and sides on?
  2. Question why was there a more defined bear trail on one side of the muskeg but not the other?
  3. Question why did I not see any deer?bear-tree

Yesterdays Park

Yesterday I went down to the park. It was a nice sunny when I went down there it was still sunny when I left. The river is no longer smelling like die fish which is nice it makes it nicer to walk around the park when half the walk does not smell like die fish. It was low tide when I was down there and there I saw there were less gulls down there this time then there have been earlier in the fall. The black oystercatchers are starting to move back to the park beach as well they were gone over the late spring and summer and early fall but now they are starting to come back and are starting to grow in numbers. I all so saw a gadwall down there with the mallards. I heard black turnstones and saw and heard bald eagles down there. There also seems to be less bald eagles around the park then there was earlier in the fall. There are no pink or chum salmon alive in the river any more the only salmon that I know of that is alive in the river still is coho salmon which is a later run then pinks or chums. The dark eyed juncos are also starting to come back and are going to feeders more now then they did in the summer. Every thing else though has been pretty slow.

  1. Question why are there not more nesting black oystercatchers around here?
  2. Question why are there less gulls here now then earlier in the fall?
  3. Question Why do black turnstone not nest around here?
