park

Today when I went down to the park, it was raining a little bit, but it was fairly warm.
When I was not far from home, I saw some juncos and sparrows.
When I was nearing the breakwater, I saw a bunch of crows across the road in a field When I was out on the breakwater, I saw some sea gulls and goldeneyes.
When I was at the battle site bench, it was high tide, and I saw one duck out in the water.
When I was near the trail by the river, I saw some sea gulls out in the water.
When I was on the trail by the river, I saw two swans and a bunch of ducks in the visible grass on the other side of the river. I also saw three Goldeneyes, one male and two females in the middle of the river.
When I was on my way back home, I saw a bunch of juncos, a couple of sparrows on the ground and in the bushes in the same area where I saw them before. I also saw some chickadees in the trees.
Why is it warmer when it’s cloudy then when it sunny sometimes in the winter?
Why was that one duck out there in the water by its self?
What were those crows doing in the field?

Today’s Outing

This morning after I had come to dad’s I went down to the park to see what was down there. It was a bit windy, but it was not raining, and it was not cold, so it was not bad outside. I meet Rowan on my why down to the park, and walked together for a bit, but then I stopped to take some pictures of stuff, and she went on for the rest of her walk. After I had gotten done taking pictures of the mosses that I was taking pictures of I walked on down the trail. I walked down to the end of the park, and up the river. Then I crossed the river on a bridge and went down the other side of the river. Once I got to the estuary I walked out, and looked around at the plants, and the ducks. While I was looking at the flock of wigeons that were out there I saw a male eurasian wigeon mixed in with them, so I took some photos of it then went back in side the forest to the trail. I walked back back up the trail, and went home. After lunch I went up gavan hill a little ways and looked around to see what I could find. It was raining by the time I went up gavan hill. I saw some liverworts and some lichens, and mosses. I spent maybe an hour or two up there then I turned around and came home.

  1. Question why was there a male eurasian wigeon down there, but I did not see the female eurasian wigeon?
  2. Question why was it not raining when I went to the park, but it was raining when I went up gavan hill?
  3. Question when will stuff start growing more again?

park

Today when I went down to the park, it was cloudy and a thin layer of snow coated the ground.
When I was out on the breakwater, I saw some seagulls.
When I was in the park, I saw some sea gulls and ducks out in the water.
When I was nearing the battle site bench, I saw some sea gulls and a great blue heron in shallow water.
When I was at the battle site bench, it was low tide, and I saw some sea gulls out by the edge of the water and a great blue heron. I think the great blue heron was the same one I saw earlier.
When I was by the trail by the river, I saw some crows out on the beach along with a great blue heron. I also saw two swans at the end of the river and two eagles out on a branch that was in the water.
When I was near the trail by the river, I saw some sort of spine bone on the trail.
When I was on the trail by the river, I didn’t see anything.
Why did it snow this morning?
Why were there ducks out by the beginning of the park but not in the river?
how did the bone get there?

When I was on the trail by the river, I saw someone and their dog out on the the grass on the other side of the river.
When I was on my way back home, I could see my breath and I saw a few stars.
Why did the great blue heron fly into the tree?
Why can I see my breath on some cold days but not on other cold days?
why was there so much snow on the mountains but not down here?

Todays Outing

This morning I got up, and ate breakfast asked dad if I could got over to the airport. After He said yes I left, and walked over to the bridge. When I was half way over the bridge I saw that there were some scaups and long tailed ducks by ANB harbor, so I went back down the bridge, and to ANB harbor. I walked out on to the docks, and looked for the birds. I found the scaups between the harbor and the seafood processing plant. I tried to get some photos of the scaups, but decided to go and take pictures of the long tailed ducks instead. Once I got out to the end of the dock I saw the long tailed ducks. They were by the dock, and were fairly cooperative. While I was taking pictures of the long tailed duck I saw a sea otter out more in the middle of the channel. I took some pictures of it to then went back to try, and get some better pictures of the scaups. I took pictures of to different types of scaups I took pictures of a lesser scaup and a greater scaup. I then went back to the bridge and went over to the island. I stopped and took some pictures of some plants and mosses, then went to the airport. I looked around old airport road went in to the trees by the road, then went over to alice island, and walked the loop over there, then I went in to the forest (on one side of the road that went to SEARCH), and looked around to see if I could find any new plants or birds or anything. After I was done one that side of the road I went back to the road, and walked across the road and into the forest on the other side, as I was coming down the hill I heard what sounded like redpoles and pine siskins flying around in the trees by where I was. I stopped and looked around for them, after a few minutes I saw them, and I took some pictures of them, then went home.                                                     common redpole

park

Today when I went down to the park, there was snow on the ground and it was sunny and cold.
When I was nearing the harbor, I saw some crows on a power line. One crow was rubbing it’s beak up against the power line.
When I was on the breakwater, I saw some seagulls and ducks.
When I was nearing the battle site bench, I heard some sort of tapping noise and went over to look. I walked over to the trees where I was hearing it, and I saw a winter wren on the ground. After looking around up at the trees for a bit, I finally saw the red breasted sapsucker that was there up in the trees.
When I was at the battle site bench, it was low tide and I saw Connor out on the beach and I saw some sea gulls out by the water.
When I was on the trail by the river, I didn’t see much just two swans closer to the end of the river.
When I was on my way back home, I saw some chickadees and juncos in someone’s yard and I saw three ravens too. One raven was in a tree and the other two were on the ground.
Why was it cold even when it was sunny?
Why was the crow rubbing it’s beak up against the power line?
Why were the two swans closer to the end of the river?

Saturdays Outing

This morning I went up gaven hill to do a few things. It was rainy and windy, but I went any way. The ice had melted almost all the way off the sidewalks and the road. It was still a little icy on the trail tough which was fine with me because it made it easier to walk off the trail in the muskeg. I went up the old trail, and looked at some plants. It was wet up there in the forest, but I did not mind. I walked off into the woods to check something then I got back on the trail, and continued up the old trail. I went across a log to cross a creek, and then I went up the other side of the hill. I went on off the trail again, and stopped to look, and take photos of some plants, mosses and lichens. I was raining in the forest not to mention dark and wet in there, so it made it harder to get some good photos of the plants and mosses and lichens I was trying to take photos of. I walked off the trail quite a ways this time, found another little creek that I cross using a couple of logs. I went, and looked at some more mosses and lichens on the other side, and also check something, and then went back across the creek, and got back on the old trail. On my way to the old trail though I found another lichen, and took some photos of it as well then went on my way home.

  1. Question what were the mosses and lichen I took photos of?
  2. Question when will it stop raining?
  3. Question when will the next sunny day be?

park

Today when I went down to the park for the second time, it was cloudy and raining.
When I was by the harbor, I saw a caterpillar in the grass and a song sparrow out on the rocks by the water.
When I was walking out to the end of the breakwater, there was a sea gull and some crows on the railing but most of them flew away when I walked by.
When I was out on the breakwater, I saw an eagle out on one of the posts in the water, and I saw a bunch of sea gulls on the shore.
When I walked back from the end of the break water, the crows that hadn’t flown away before flew away.
When I was by the battle site bench, I saw some crows on the beach by the water.
When I was at the battle site bench, it was high tide.
When I was on the trail by the river, I saw two swans, some ducks and some goldeneyes.
When I was on my way back home by sage beach, I saw some shorebirds out on some rocks.
What type of caterpillar was it?
Why have the two swans stayed near the park?
Why were the crows by the water?

Trip To Indian River Falls

This morning after I got here dad said that we would be going up indian river to the falls. I started getting ready, and Rowan got here dad told her to get ready also, so we were both getting ready. After we had gotten ready we went out, and waited to the car for dad. We drove to the trail head then got out, and started walking up the trail. It was a bit slippery on the way up the trail, and after we had gotten back far enough we got into snow that had gotten compacted enough that it had turn into ice. We slipped quite a bit and fell a few times. It took us about 45 minutes to get up to the first bridge, and it looked like it had been really quite windy up there at some point because there were pine needles pine cone and branches laying in the trail and across the trail. I took us about an hour to reach the half way point, and it just kept getting more icy as we went along up the trail. I had fun though walking across logs, and crossing creeks. Once we were getting closer to the falls I went ahead to see if I could make it there in 15 minutes. It took me half an hour to get up to the falls from the point I had left dad and Rowan. It took me a total of two hours to make from the trail head to the falls. Once I got to the falls I saw that some of it was frozen, and some of it was open water. I carefully walked across the ice, and got on a little gravel bar the had a bunch of snow on it. About 10 minutes later dad and Rowan got there and dad called me back across to eat lunch. After we had eaten lunch we all walked up to the falls. Once we got to the base of the falls I saw that all the ice was pointing tords to falls. We took some photos of the falls then started heading home. Once we got back down to the first bridge we stopped and took some photos of plants then went on home. It took us about two hours to get back to the car.

  1. Question why was the ice pointing tords the water fall?
  2. Question why was it so ice up there?
  3. Question when will we go back up there?

park

Today when I went down to the park for the second time today, the sun was setting. When I was out on the breakwater, I saw some ducks and sea gulls. When I was by sage beach, I saw a great blue heron out in the water. When I was nearing the park, I saw a varied thrush in the bushes that flew a small distance away when it saw me. When I was in the park, I heard a squirrel alarm somewhere in the trees in the park. When I was nearing the battle site bench, I heard an eagle. When I was at the battle site bench, it was low tide. When I was on the trail by the trail by the river, I saw some sea gulls out in the water. When I was on the trail by the river, I didn’t see any ducks. When I was on my way back home by sage beach, I saw an eagle out by the water on the beach and the sun had almost set.
Why was the eagle out on the beach?
Why didn’t I see any ducks when I was on the trail by the river?
What was the squirrel alarming about?
