Todays Outing

This morning after I had eaten some breakfast I went down to the park.

It was nice and sunny on my way to the park. There was still some snow on the ground, and it was a bit cool out, but other then that it was a nice morning.

I walked down a street, and across a road, and onto a sidewalk. I walked down the sidewalk by the harbor, and out on to the breakwater, and back again. I walked down by th beach, and looked at some of the things on the rock, and logs just above the high tide zone.

Once I had made it to the park I walked all the way to the shore line to see what was down there. The tide was out while I was down there, but I did not see very many shore birds down there. There was a bit of wind down there, but nothing bad.

I walked all the way out to the end of the park. I saw a flock of gulls, and I tooked through them, but did not see any unusual gulls in there. There were some black oystercatchers out at the very end of the park, but that was I saw in the way of shore birds. I walked up the beach to the trail, and in to the woods.

I walked to the river, and up to the estuary to see if there were any ducks in the river. I did not see any ducks or any other bird for that mater in the estuary, so I walked on home.

After I ate lunch I went up by gavan hill, and looked around. It was nice and sunny when I did this, so that made a nice afternoon for me. I found a few things then I went to the lake.

Once I got to the lake I looked around the lake, but the only birds I saw at the lake were mallards. I did not see one gull there nor did I see the wood duck or any other duck for that matter, so I walked home.

  1. Question were was the wood duck?
  2. Question is the wood duck still around?
  3. Question will it come back to the lake if it is still around?

park

Today when I went down to the park, it was sunny and frosty and there was some snow on the ground.
When I was across the road from the harbor, I saw some ravens in someone’s yard.
When I was out on the breakwater, I saw some goldeneyes, wigeons, ducks, and mergansers out in the water.
When I was in the park, I saw some Varied thrushes on the trail and in the bushes.
When I was near the battle site bench, I saw a flicker fly up from the ground and into the trees and I went to get a better look. When I was looking at it a raven flew by and the flicker flew to another tree.
When I was at the battle site bench, it was low tide, and I saw some sea gulls and crows out on the beach.
I also saw an eagle land on the beach out by the water by two other eagles.
When I was on the trail by the river, I didn’t see any birds.
When I was on my way back home, I saw some more ravens.
Why was it frosty today?
Why were the three eagles out on the same place on the beach?
Why did the flicker fly off the ground?

Today’s Outing

This morning after I did a couple of things at home I went down to the park.

On my way down to the park I saw a bird sitting up in a tree. The bird did not look quite right, so I decided to take a look at it. It was a sharp shinned hawk, I  took out my camera, and took some pictures of it. There was also a bad eagle in the same clump of trees just a little ways away. I watched the sharp shinned hawk for a little while, but I eventually moved on, and left the sharp shinned hawk to sit in the tree, and look for it lunch.

I walked down to the breakwater, and then down the sea walk, and to the beach. I walked on some of the big rocks just above the high tide zone. I looked around at the lichens, and stuff that were on the rocks, and logs that were up there. I took some pictures of some of the things that were there then I moved on.

I walked down the beach in front of the visitor center, and started working my way to the end of the park. On my way to the end of the park I saw a flock of gulls sitting on the beach. I walked over towards them, then I stopped, and looked through them to see if there were any gulls that looked unusual. All of them were normal for around here this time of year except one, and that one was a glaucous gull. I tried to get some good photos of it before they flew away, but I was unable. I finished my walk to the end of the park, and walked up into the woods.

I walked up the river to see if there were any ducks in the river. I did not see any, so I walked on up the trail. I looked around, but did not see any ducks, so I walked on home.bald eagle                                                                                                           sharp shinned hawk                                                    sharp shinned hawk

park

Today when I went down to the park for the second time, it was cloudy and there was a tiny bit of rain.
When I was out on the breakwater, I saw an eagle.
When I was in the park, I saw a squirrel on a tree root, when I walked by it ran up the tree. I also saw some buffleheads and a goldeneye out in the water.
When I was at the battle site bench, the tide was out a little ways, and I saw some ducks and harlequins out in the water. I also saw a bunch of crows out by the water on the beach.
When I was on the trail by the river, I saw an Eurasian wigeon and some ducks on the rocks on the other side of the river. I also saw a merganser in the water by the side of the river I was walking on.
When I was on my way back home by sage beach, I saw three sea gulls in the water by the beach along with some ducks.
Why were there only sea gulls at sage beach?
Why is the Eurasian wigeon here?
Why were the crows out on the beach?

Today’s Outing

This morning I slept in, so I did not eat breakfast, so after I got up  out of bed I went down to the park to see what was down there. The tide was high when I got down there, and it was also cloudy.

I looked around in front of the visitor center for a bit. I found a few new things for my species list, but nothing really exciting.

I then walked down to the end of the park to see what was down there. I was very windy out there, and it started to rain while I was out there. I found a few land snails, and a few new plants for the year.

I then walked up to the estuary, and looked around.  I saw that the male eurasian wigeon was still there, and I also saw there were a bunch of duck up there. most of them looked like mallards, but I did not look all that hard.

After I had gotten done there I went, and wondered around in the forest, and found a raven skeleton. I found a few new species there as well.

After I was done there I went home, and had some lunch.

Then I went up to the cross trail on gavan hill. Once I got to the trail head, and had walked up the trail a little ways I heard some bird that sounded sort of formilleer. I looked around, and I saw that what I was hearing were pine grosbeaks. They landed in a tree, so I ran down the trail to the trail head, so that I was a bit closer to them. Then I took some photos of them then texted dad. I took some more pictures while I waited for him, but by the time he got there they had flown away.

After that I went up the trail, and walked the cross trail to the high school. I did not see anything really all that interesting, but it was a nice walk.

After I had gotten to the high school I walked home by the lake.

  1. Question why was it, so windy out?
  2. Question when will it be windy again?
  3. Question will it be as windy when it is windy again?

park

Today when I went down to the park, it was mostly cloudy.
when I was still close to home, I saw some juncos and some sort of sparrow in some trees and bushes and on the ground. When I walked by, they flew off.
When I was out on the breakwater, I saw some sea gulls.
When I was in the park, I heard a squirrel somewhere in the forest.
When I was at the battle site bench,it was a little bit windy, and it was high tide. When I was looking out at the water when I was by the battle site bench, I saw two birds far out in the water.
When I was by the trail by the river, I didn’t see any birds out in the water.
When I was on the trail by the river, I saw some ducks and two swans on the other side of the river by some grass that was still above the water.
When I was on my way back home, I was walking on the other side of the road from the beach and I heard some people by the water. I also saw that the house that some people had been building looked close to done.
Why were they building the house?
Why were most of the ducks by the grass?
What birds were out in the water?

Park

Today when I went down to the park for the second time, it was cloudy, the ground was mostly wet and it was a bit windy in some places.
When I was near the end of the breakwater, I saw an eagle fly by, and shortly after that, a sea gull flew from the rocks on the breakwater.
When I was out on the breakwater, I saw that a least two of the posts out in the water were broken. One of them was broken off lower than the other and almost under the water, and two posts were also tilting sideways. I also saw some ducks in the water and a sea gull on one of the posts.
When I was at the battle site bench, it was low tide and I saw one sea gull out by the water.
When I was on the trail by the trail by the river, I didn’t see anything out on the beach.
When I was on the trail by the river, I saw some ducks on the other side of the river.
How were those posts broken?
When were they broken?
Why was there only one sea gull out by the water?

Todays Outing

This morning after I had eaten some breakfast I went up gavan hill. It was cloudy out, but it was not raining, so that was nice, it was also not all that cold out either, so that was nice. I looked around in the muskeg to see what I could find. I found a few new plants for the year, and that was about it. I then walked up the trail a little ways, and looked around in the forest, and open areas off the trail. I walked all the up to the cross trail, and wondered area in the forest, and bushes that were off the trail. I found some new liverworts, and a few fungi’s. It was nice up by the cross trail not many people came by, so it was nice, and quiet, and the sun way peaking out form behind the clouds, so it was nice, and sunny which made the all time I spent up there well used time in my opinion. While I was up there I saw some pretty big devil’s club stocks, and I also saw where it had funded up there at one point, and made a creek bed down through the forest the creek bed was dry, so I looked around the creek bed, and found some new plant, and things for my list this year. I spent an hour or two up there enjoying the nice day then I started heading home around eleven thirty or so, and made it home just after noon. After I had lunch I walked down to the park to see what was down there. The tide was out a little ways, so I did not see much in the way of birds, I did see quiet a few plants while I was down there. After I was done down there I went home.

  1. Question will it be a nice day tomorrow?
  2. Question if I go up gavan hill again tomorrow what will I find?
  3. Question where will I explore tomorrow?                               Liverwort  Genus Porella

Park

Today when I was at going down to the park, it was cloudy and wet.
When I was out on the breakwater, I saw a sea gull on a post in the water and some ducks in the water.
When I was on the sea walk by sage beach, I saw some shorebirds on sage rock.
When I was at the battle site bench, it was high tide.
When I was on the trail by the trail by the river, I saw a raven that looked like it was eating something, but when it saw me it flew into a tree then flew off.
When I was on the trail by the river, I saw some ducks and swans out on the other side of the river. While I was walking on the trail by the river, I saw a flicker so I got out my camera to try to get some photos of it. It kept on moving and the lighting wasn’t right so all my photos ended up blurry. Eventually it flew off, and I looked for it but I couldn’t find it again.
When I was looking for the flicker, I saw a winter wren on the side of a tree.
What was the raven eating?
Why was the wren on the tree?
Why are most of the ducks always on the other side of the river?

Todays outing

This morning I came to dad’s, then I went down to the park. It was drizzling when I left for the park, but by the time I got down there it was raining. There were some black turnstone, surfbirds and rock sandpipers on sage rock, and a few on other rocks by sage rock. It was high tide while I was down there that was way the shore birds were on the rocks. The rain lightened up, and it became brighter outside while I was at the park. I walked down to the end of the park to see what was down there. I saw three seals, and that was about it. I walked up to the estuary, and looked at the ducks, and saw that the male eurasian wigeon was over there, so I walked over a foot bridge, and down the other side of the river. By the time I had gotten to the estuary it was raining, and it was fairly dark out, so I decided to wait a little while for the rain to stop. It took maybe about a half an hour before the rain stopped, and it had gotten bright enough that I felt I might get better pictures of the eurasian wigeon then what I had gotten yesterday. After it had stopped raining I got my camera out, and started taking pictures of the male eurasian wigeon. After I was done I went back home, and we went to the store, and ate some lunch. After we had gotten back from the store I went up gavan hill to see what I could find. I found a few plants, and things, I also check my trail camera while I was up there, and I had nothing on it. After I had spent a bit of time up there I came back home, and spent the rest of the day in side.

  1. Question where did the male eurasian wigeon come from?
  2. Question why was the tide high while I was down at the park?
  3. Question what will I find if I go up gavan hill tomorrow?
