What I Did Today

This morning I slept in till around 9:15 am. I sat up and looked out through the window to see that it was snowing. I then got up (after dad had gone up stair) and got dressed. Then I went in to the kitchen and had cereal for breakfast. Rowan came up shortly after me and we ate together.

After we had finished eating we went back down to our rooms, and did some stuff. I sat on m bed and read a little bit, and looked out the window and watched the birds that where going to the feed that I had in the back yard.

It continued to snow while I was watching out the window. Rowan then came out of her room and went to do her out side time around 10:15am. After she had left I went up on to the computer, and looked at a few things. I came back down a little while later, and around 11:00am I turn on the radio, and sat there and looked out the window, and list to the radio.

After a little while I went back up stairs and got onto the computer. shortly after I got on to the computer Rowan came home and came up stairs, and got on another computer. Shortly after she got back Dad went outside to try and get some new species for the year. Around 12:45pm I went down stairs and made egg sandwiches for Rowan and I. After I made Rowan’s and I’s lunch I went out side and plowed snow. At about 1:30pm dad came home and we had lunch.

After lunch I went down to the park.

On my way down to the park I walked by the harbor. As I was walking by the harbor I saw some little fish flashing there side (Rowan had said that she had been seeing little fish that kind of looked like salmon fry in the harbor).  I walked out on to one of the ramps that go down to the docks, so I could get a better look at the fish and try to get some pictures of them. It looked to me that there were thousands of the little fish in the harbor. I think that they were juvenile herring. I’m not sure what they were doing in the harbor, but there sure were a lot of them.

The tide was high when I got down to the park, so I did not go out on to the beach and look around. I walked into the forest, and worked my way down to the end of the apkr.

Once I got out  there I walked down on to the upper part of the beach since that was the only part of the beach that was not covered by water. I walked all the way down to the river then went back into the forest and on to the trail.

I walked up to the estuary, and looked around I saw the male wood duck and the male eurasian wigeon, I also saw a lot of mallards and a few gadwalls, and buffleheads, and common mergansers and golden eyes.

I walked home from there and went into my room and read some more. I spent a good part of the afternoon in my room reading and listing to the radio and watching the feeder in the back yard. I did go up on to the computer a couple of time, but I did not stay up there for very long.

At about 5:00pm the papers arrived and I did my paper route. Pretty much right after I had done my paper route I started making dinner we were having tacos for dinner. We ate dinner a short time later.

After we were done eating dinner I went up stairs and started righting this blog.

  1. Question why was it snowing when I got up?
  2. Question why did I get up so late?
  3. Question how long will the snow stay for?
There is one word in the blog that is scrambled what is the word?

park

Today when I went down to the park for the second time today, it was cloudy and there was wet snow on the ground. It wasn’t too deep and I wore my shoes.
When I was walking out in the breakwater, some snow had melted from when I was last out there earlier in the day. It was also a bit windy, and I didn’t see the fish that I had seen before.
When I was out at the end of the breakwater, I saw some sea gulls.
When I was at the beginning of the park, I saw a bunch of Varied thrushes on the ground. The varied thrushes flew into the trees when I walked by.
When I was at the battle site bench, it was low tide and it was windy enough that my hood almost got blown off my head. I also saw some sea gulls flying around.
When I was by the trail by the river, I saw some crows out on the beach. I also saw seven swans out near the end of the river in the water.
When I was on the trail by the river, I saw a merganser fly up the river.
When I was on my way back home I saw some ravens.
Why were the Varied thrushes at the beginning of the trail?
Why were the seven swans near the end of the river?
Why did the Merganser fly up the river?

The Outings Of Yesterday And The Day Before

The day before yesterday I went down to the park to see what was down there.

It was sunny out and the tide was going out. There was ice and a little bit of snow on the ground. It was pretty cold out, but even so It was a nice day.

I walked down to the end of the park, and walked along the upper part of the beach. I did not see much in the way of birds or mammals, so I walked up into the forest and back on  to the trail, and up to the estuary. I saw quite a few mallards up there and a few gadwalls, but I did  not see either of the eurasian wigeons or the wood duck. I walked on home after that.

The following day I went down to the park in the afternoon.

It was cloudy out and it was also fairly cold out, but even so it was not a bad day.

The tide was low when I got down to the park, so I walked out on  to the beach and looked around a bit I flipped over rocks, and was able to get a few more species for the year.

I then worked my way out to the end of the park, and on my way out there I saw some mallards and a few american wigeons.

As I got a little further down the beach I saw a good sized flock of gulls. I looked through them, but did not see any unusual gulls in the bunch.

Once I got to the end of the there was not much out there in the way of birds and mammals. I saw about nine trumpeter swan and a bunch of mallards. I saw some more mallards flying along with the male wood duck. Also while I was out there at the end of the park I saw a humpback whale breach in mouth of silver bay. I walked up to the top of the beach and then walked on the trail to the estuary.

I got to the estuary and saw some mallards, and a few gadwalls, and a few buffleheads, and a few common golden eyes,  but I did not see the eurasian wigeons up there.

I walked home from there.

  1. Question where were the eurasian wigeons?
  2. Question where was the male wood duck going?
  3. Question why were there nine swans down there?

park

When I was at the park for the second time today, it was a bit cloudy.
when I was walking out on the breakwater, I saw a lot fish in the water in the harbor. I had seen them in the water earlier in the day too.I guessed that they were salmon fry.
When I was out at the end of the breakwater, I saw some sea gulls and ducks.
When I was walking back from the end of the breakwater, I saw some ducks and wigeons in the water and on the rocks by the science center. The wigeons flew off the rocks when they saw me walk by.
When I was at the beginning of the park trail I saw a lot of varied thrushes on the trail and in the woods and they all flew away farther into the forest when I walked by.
When I was nearing the battle site bench, I heard some kinglets in the forest, and I saw some sea gulls out on the beach.
When I was at the battle site bench, it was low tide.
When I was by the trail by the river, I saw seven swans farther out, along with some sea gulls. I also saw a kingfisher dive into the water then fly off.
Why were there so many Varied thrushes at the beginning of the trail?
Why did the kingfisher dive into the water?
Why were there so many small fish in the harbor?

Yesterdays Trip To The Beach

Yesterday afternoon Matt,Rowan,Connor and I went with Paul out to magic island to look around out there.

It was a nice sunny afternoon there was very little wind, so that made it warm in the sun.

We walked down to the beach to see what we could find. It was low tide we walked along the shore line looking under rocks to see what we could find. I find a couple a nudibranchs and some flat worms along with some snails and other things.

We worked our way out to magic island to see what was out there. We went around to the outside part of magic island. I climbed down by the water, and looked around in the cracks and crevasses to see what was in them. I found a big gumboot and a abalone, alone with some interesting looking snails. I took some pictures of a lot of the stuff that we found. We also found some red sea urchins, some kelp crabs, some scale worms, and also a spiny scallop.

I then walked around the rocks, and found like a little inlet spot that I climbed into and started to look around in the rocks, and under them. I flipped over a big rock and I found a eighteen scale worm along with the spiny scallop. There were also a lot of crabs under there, and some other things.

The sun was starting to set, and it was get a bit later, so we headed home.

  1. Question what else was there that I did not find?
  2. Question why were there some abalone out there?
  3. Question when will we go back out there again?                                                     abalone                                                         giant barnacle                                                              kelp crab

beach

Today Connor, dad and I went with Paul out to look at the beach at Magic island.
It was a little cold when we got there.
I wandered toward the island while I was wading in the water.
I saw some shrimp in the water, along with some sculpins. I also saw a large sculpin in the water, and I tried to catch it. Once I got it out of the water, but then it got away and went under some rocks where I could not get it.
After that, I waited for dad, Connor and Paul and then went with them for a little bit.
While I was wandering around by them, I saw some large crabs, sea urchins, some seagulls flying by, and other things.
I was getting a little hot from walking around on the rocks.
After staying mostly with them for a bit, I wandered off again.
While I was wandering around, I saw a green shrimp, what looked like a large clam, A raven or a crow flew from the trees, and deeper in the water I saw some fish. I also saw some sort of snail in the sand that I don’t see around much.
When were were heading home the sun was setting.
Why was the big sculpin there in the shallow water?
What were those fish I saw in the deeper water?
Why did the raven or the crow fly from the trees?

Yesterdays Outing

Yesterday after I had gotten to dads place I went p on the computer, and did a few things up there.

A little while after I had been up there dad called, and said that he wanted lunch to be ready by no later then 12:10pm. I told Rowan since she was the one that was make lunch that day.

Shortly after dad had called me he texted me, and said that there was a red-tailed hawk down on SJ campus by the maintenance building, so I went down there to see if I could see it.

Just as I was walking down a side road to get to the SJ campus a little bit faster I saw the red-tailed hawk soaring, and flying around by the hames center, but it had flew over the trees by the time I had gotten my camera out. I walked down the road, and found dad walking back from over by the maintenance building. He said that it had flown away, so we walked home.

After lunch I went up gavan hill to check my trail camera, and look around a bit.

On the way up there  there was ice thick enough to walk on in the muskeg. I walked across the muskeg, and up into the woods.

It was sunny but cold, but even though it was cold it was nice out. I walked up the old trail, and looked to see if there were any plants or anything that I could up on my species list for the year. I did not see any new one, but that does not mean there were not any.

A short time later I made it to my trail camera. I looked but it seemed that nothing had walked by since that last time I checked.

As I walked back home I climbed up a half fallen tree, and looked around then I walked back down.  I looked at a few things on my way back home, but did not see any new species that I know of.

On my way back I slipped and fell on a patch of ice at the edge of the forest. I did not hit my head but I did have a head ache after words.

I then walked the rest of the way home.

  1. Question where the red-tailed hawk go?
  2. Question why is so cold outside?
  3. Question when will it warm up again?

park

Today when I went down to the park, it was sunny and cold.
When I was walking towards the breakwater by the harbor, I noticed that some trees were missing by the side of the trail. There were wood chips where they had been, I guess they go cut down.
When I was on the breakwater, I saw some ducks and sea gulls out in the water.
When I was in the park, I saw some varied thrushes by the trail.
When I was near the battle site bench, I sat down on a bench by the beach that was there for a bit before getting back up and walking some more.
When I was close to the battle site bench, I saw a squirrel in a tree.
When I was at the battle site bench, it was low tide, and I saw a few sea gulls out on the beach.
When I was by the trail by the river, I saw some sea gulls and crows out on the beach.
When I was on the trail by the river, I saw some wigeons and ducks by the grass on the other side of the river. I also saw seven swans by the trail on the other side of the river.
Why were there seven swans there today?
Why did they cut down the trees?
Why did they put wood chips were the trees had been?

Whales

Today, dad, Connor and I went down to Silver bay and then Whale park to go look at the whales dad saw breaching when he was at the park.
It was vary windy there.
At first we went to a parking spot at Silver bay and stayed there for a little bit, then we went to the parking spot at Whale park and got out of the car and went to one of the little shelters.
We stayed in the shelter for a little bit and saw some whales out in the water and decided that we would be able to see them better from farther down near the shore.
When we were just leaving the shelter, I saw a whale breach out in the water through some branches.
Me and Conner made it to the viewing spot before dad and I looked through the binocular things that were there.
While I was looking through them, I saw some tail whales slapping their tails on the water and apparently I missed some more breaches.
Connor and dad had gone out onto the rocks, and after a bit, I did too.
Dad let me use his binoculars and eventually I saw a whale breach while I was looking through them.
After a bit, I decided to get out my camera and try to take some photos of the whales like Connor and dad were doing.
The wind made my hands cold because I had no gloves, but I got a video of a whale slapping it’s tail.
While we were watching the whales a few more breaches happened but after a bit, the whales seemed to stop breaching. So we got up, and dad looked around for a little bit.
After that, we went back up to the car and went back home.
Why were the whales breaching?
Why were the whales slapping their tails?
Why was it so windy and cold today?

Todays Outing To Silver Bay

After we had some lunch Dad, Rowan and I went out to silver bay because dad said that he had seen some whales breaching out at the mouth of silver bay.

When we left it was nice and sunny with just a little bit of wind. We drove out to whale park to see if the whales were breaching at all, and just a few minutes after we got out I saw my first breach of the day.

It was sunny out there as well, but it was a lot more windy out there then it was at the house. We walked down to the beach, and sat on the rocks, and watched the whales.

There were quite a few whales out there in the mouth of the bay, and there were a few further out. While we were watching them we saw them slap there tail slap there fins, and also breach a few time. I was able to get some pictures of the whales slapping there tail, and I also got a few photos of the whales breaching. The pictures of the whales breaching weren’t all that good because the whales were out there a little ways, and the breaches were not all that predictable, so I had my camera zoomed out a little further, so I could have a bigger range of view through my camera.

The whales eventually stopped breaching as much, so we looked for other things while we were out. After we were done out there we headed home.

  1. Question why were the whales breaching
  2. Question why were the whales slapping there tails?
  3. Question why were the whales at the mouth of silver bay?                                                        Breaching whale                                                     Whale slapping its tail
