A Wild Life

Today when I went down to the park for the second time, it was still raining.
When I was out on the breakwater, I saw some sea gulls, ducks and harlequins. I also saw a great blue heron on the same pole it’s been on the last times I’ve seen it.
When I was on the trail by sage beach, I saw some ducks on the steps leading down to the beach.
When I was nearing the park, I saw a kinglet and heard some chickadees. I also saw a squirrel eating a pine cone.
When I was in the park, I saw some mergansers out in the water.
When I was nearing the battle site bench, I saw some buffleheads, goldeneyes and harlequins out in the water.
When I was at the battle site bench, it was high tide and I saw a few sea gulls.
When I was on the trail by the river, I saw a lot of mergansers and some geese, ducks, buffleheads and goldeneyes.
When I was on my way back home, I saw three eagles flying around the harbor and some ravens.
Why were there so many mergansers?
Why were the ducks on the steps?
Why do the herons always seem to be on the same pole?

Today when I went down to the park for the second time today, it was cloudy and pretty windy.
When I was out on the breakwater, I saw some sea gulls and two ducks. The ducks were on some rocks by the science center.
When I was in the park, I saw some buffleheads out on the water.
When I was at the battle site bench, it was basically high tide, there was only a small bit of beach left. While I was at the battle site bench, I saw some sea gulls out on the water.
When I was on the trail near the trail by the river, I saw some more sea gulls. I also a whale out farther in the water as it dove under, showing it’s tail.
When I was on the trail by the river, I saw some geese, ducks, mergansers and a erasion wigeon on the other side of the river by the grass.
When I was on my way back home, I saw a raven fly by the harbor.
Was there only one whale out there?
Why has the Erasion wigeon stuck around here this long?
Was the tide going to get any higher?

Today when I went down to the park for the second time, it was cloudy and there was a little bit of rain.
When I was out on the break water, there were a bunch of sea gulls flying around and out on the water. While I was still out on the breakwater, I saw a few cormorants, and there was a group of sea lions out in the water.
When I was in the park, I heard some chickadees in the trees.
When I was at the battle site bench, it was high tide and I saw some sea gulls and a large group of birds out in the water.
when I was nearing the trail by the river, I saw some goldeneyes and buffleheads.
When I was on the trail by the river, I saw some mergansers and some more buffleheads.
When I was on my way back home and was on the side walk by sage beach, I saw some ducks by some rocks by the shore, and the sea gulls were still there.
Were the sea lions and sea gulls there because there were herring there?
Why were the ducks by the rocks?
Were there herring there?

Yesterday I got up around 7am got ready and went down to the park for a morning walk.

Once I got down there I walked out onto the beach and started looking at the birds but mainly gulls that were out there. I walked down towards a big flock of gulls and started looking through them with my binoculars. I must have got a little to close and looked a little to scary because a good chunk of the gulls flew away. As I started looking through the gulls that were left when I saw a Slaty-backed gull. As I was getting ready to get my camera out the rest of the gulls flew away and the Slaty-bbacked gull went with them. I watched the gull and saw that the gulls land further down the beach. I started making my way down the beach then I realized that it was almost 8am and that I needed to start heading back to moms soon. I got down tot he flock of gulls but the I did not see the Slaty-backed gull in with the rest of the gull, so I headed home. Once I got home I told mom good by and sat down and ate a quick breakfast. After that I headed to dad’s place.

Once I got to dad’s place I let the chickens out in the yard and stayed out there with them and watched them for a while. Once I was getting close to time for me to make lunch. I put the chickens back in there coop and went inside washed up and started making lunch.

For the rest of the after noon I stayed home and either did stuff in my room or on the computer until it was time to do our paper route and go to mom’s place.

This morning I got up got ready and left for dad’s place. Once I got there I went up on the computer did a few things then I left for the park.

Once I got to the park I walked down along the shore line. I saw a pigeon guillemot and I watched it for a little while. There was a hump back whale out there as well, and while I was watching the pigeon guillemot I saw the whale lung feed once. I first saw the herring jumping out of the water then I saw the whale come out of the water. I was unable to get any photos of it.

After a few minutes I walked on down the beach once I got tot eh end of the park I looked through a flock of gulls and saw that there was a Slaty-backed gull in with them. I got my camera out and got some photos of it. After I was done looking at the other birds out thereI headed home.

Once I got home Rowan started making lunch a short time later. Once lunch was ready we ate lunch.

After lunch I went out and turned the chickens out into the yard. I watched them for a while then I went in side and did some stuff in my room but I also watched the chickens to make sure that they did not get away. A while later I went out and put the chickens back in therer coop then I got ready and left to do my paper route.

Once I got home from my paper route I went on got on the computer and did this blog.

Today when I went down to the park for the first time today, it was cloudy and the ground was a little bit wet.
When I was walking to the park, there were a lot of worms on the sidewalk. I picked a couple of the worms of the side walk and put them in the grass.
When I was on the breakwater, I saw some sea gulls, ducks, a kingfisher and a great blue heron. The great blue heron was on a pole.
When I was in the park, I saw some ducks, sea gulls and buffleheads out in the water.
When I was at the battle site bench, it was low tide, I saw some sea gulls out on the beach by the water.
When I was near the trail by the river, I heard some kinglets, and I saw some sea gulls, ducks, an eagle by the water and two geese.
When I was on the trail by the river, I saw some ducks on the other side of the river. I also saw two geese out by the grass on the other side of the river.
Where the two geese I saw by the grass the same geese as the two geese I saw when I was near the trail by the river?
Why were there so many worms on the side walk?
What was the eagle doing by the water?

Today, Connor and I had to get up at 7:00 AM so we could eat and get ready to go the the Food Web Cruise. Dad got up after us.
We were a little late leaving the house, so we were on the the last ones on the boat and had to sit apart from each other which wasn’t too bad.
I chose a seat in the front.
Not too long after we left the harbor, I saw some sea gulls and cormorants on some rocks.
Before we got to the spot that we saw the whales at, I saw a sea otter, some murres and more sea gulls.
When we got to the spot where the whales were, there where a bunch of seiners around and sea gulls.
While we were there some of the other things I saw besides whales were eagles, a bunch of sea lions, murres, and cormorants.
I saw plenty of flukes, there even was a breach-but I missed it- and once while one of the people who talked into a mic on the boat was answering a question about weather or not whales got caught in seining nets, two whales and two sea lions got surrounded by someone’s seining net, but the people made it so they could get out.
When it was getting closer to when it was time to leave, I happened to look over the left side of the boat and saw a group of whales lunge out of the water, a bunch of people gasped-I think I was one of them.
The whales did some more lunging after ward, and I went out on the deck to get some photos of them. I did manage to get two photos of them lunging.
When we were in the channel, I saw a lot of sea gulls and I also saw some long tailed ducks.
Did the whales ever catch any sea gulls while they were lunging?
Did the sea lions catch any herring?
Why was there only one sea otter?

This morning I had to get up a little earlier then normal because we were going on a food web cruise. I got dressed and ate some breakfast did a few things on the computer then it was time for us to leave to go get on the boat so we did.

We walked down to crescent harbor and got on the boat that the cruise was happening on. After a short time the boat left the harbor and we headed out and around the causeway. It was fairly nice out there there were high clouds and it was not raining or snowing at the time like it said it would.

We went to Hayward strait and we stopped there. Shortly after we got there there was a breach I did not see the breach but I did see where it had happened. There were quite a few fishing boats in that area, but there were also a lot of whales, seabird and sea lions. We cruised around watching the whales and the fishing boat. I guess the department of Alaska fish and game were thinking they might do a herring opening there. I watched whales for a while along with sea lions and seabirds. The fish and game did a test set to see if there were enough herring there and if they were had enough eggs in them to make it on opening worth it. While they were doing the test set though some sea lions got in the net and then three humpback whales got into the purse sane so they were unable to close the net and take a sample because they needed to let the whales and the sea lions out. We stayed there and watched whales and sea lions there for a while long. I saw one California sea lion in with a bunch of steller sea lions; And a little while after I had stopped looking at the California sea lion I heard a gasp and as I looked around I saw a bunch of people scurry to the other side of the boat and felt it go sideways and as I looked through the peoples heads I saw why every one went that way. It was because there were a group of humpback whales that were feeding. I got to see there heads but was unable to get any photos of them. After the the whales had gone back down the people spread out a little and I walked to the other side and watched. A short time later the whales came up again but this time I had my camera off. They went back down and a short time later they came back up again and this time I was able to get them. They did this another four times for a grand total of seven time I saw them feeding. and I got photos of every time except for the first to times. They were feeding enough times that I noticed that the gulls would go to where the whales would come up just before they came, so I just watched where the gulls went and then got my camera on the area and the whales would come up and I would get photos of them. We stayed out there for a little while after the last bubble net the whale put up but then we headed back to town because it was getting a little late and the fish and game said that they were going to do an opening and we did not want to be in the way.

Once we got back to the harbor we got off the boat and headed home. Once we got home I went up on the computer did a few things then started doing the blog. This was my favorite food web cruise that I have been on so far.

3. Question were the whales eating anything other then herring there? California sea lion and a steller sea lion in the top photos. The California sea lion is in the back and the steller sea lion is in the front.                                            Just the California sea lion. Three different photos of three different times the whale were feeding.

Yesterday morning I got up and got dressed. Then I went up to the kitchen to have breakfast. After I had breakfast I went up onto the computer did a few things then went down into my room and did a few things. Then I got back in bed and went back to sleep.

Once I woke up again it was after noon. I got up went up stairs  and told dad that I was going to make lunch. I went back down stairs started lunch then went back up stairs and got on the computer and did some stuff until lunch was ready.

Once lunch was ready we went back down stairs and we ate lunch after lunch I went back up stairs and did some stuff for I little while then I headed for the park.

It was nice and sunny on my way down to the park. I stopped by the harbor and looked at the little herring in the harbor then I went out onto the breakwater looked around then I headed for the park.

Once I got to the park I went out onto the beach and started looking around after I had looked around for little while I worked my way down to the end of the park. Once I got down there I looked around a little bit then headed into the forest and walked up the river. After I walked up the river a little ways and looked around I headed home.

Once I got home I went and did my paper route. After I did my paper route I went home.

Once I got home I went up on the computer and did a few things for a little while. A short time later it was time to eat dinner so we went down into the kitchen and ate dinner. After dinner I went to bed.

This morning I got up and got dressed went up into the kitchen ate breakfast then I went up stairs did a few things on the computer for a little while then I went down into my room for a while. Then I went and started lunch. A short time later I went up into the kitchen and finished getting lunch ready.

Once lunch was ready dad and Rowan came into the kitchen and we ate lunch.

After lunch I went down to the lake and looked around for a little bit then I went to the channel. Once I got to the channel I looked around and once I was done there I headed home.

Once I got home I went into my room and did a few things then I went up and got on the computer. I did a few things for a little while then I left to do my paper.

Once I was done with my paper route I headed home.

Once I got home a I did a few things in the living room. Then I went up an got on the computer. I did a few things on the computer then I started doing my blog.

This morning I got up at breakfast did a few things then left for dads place.

Once I got to dads place I went up stairs and did a few things on the computer waiting for dad to get home so I could see if I could go down and try to catch one or two of the little fish that I had seen in the harbor the day before. Once he got home he said that I could go down and fish for the little fish in the harbor. I then left for the harbor.

Once I got to the harbor I dropped my line in th water and started try to catch some of the little fish. I wanted to try and catch one or two of then because I was thinking that they were young herring and I wanted to be sure about that. I short time later I caught on and took some photos of it then tossed it back. I fished for a little while long and caught a couple more fish which I tossed back then I headed home. The little fish looked like small herring to me.

Once I got home I went up on the computer and did a few things then I went down into my room and did some stuff down there until it was time for me to make lunch.

Once I needed to make lunch I went into the kitchen and started making lunch. Once lunch was done we ate lunch.

After lunch I went up and got on the computer for a little while then I went down into my room and did some stuff down in there until I left to go look to see what was in the channel.

Once I left for the channel I walked down and looked at the birds that were in the channel. There were not a hole lot of them but there were a few. After I was done down there I headed home.

Once I got home I went up stairs did a few things on the computer then went into my room and did a few things in there then I went back up on the computer for a little while then I left for my paper route.

I walked my paper route and did not see anything out of the ordinary. I finished my paper route then headed home.

Once I got home I went up on the computer and started doing this blog.

When I was in the park, I heard a squirrel somewhere in the forest alarming.
When I was at the battle site bench, it was sort of low tide and I saw some sea gulls farther down the beach.
When I was on the trail by the trail by the river, I saw some sea gulls and ducks.
When I was on the trail by the river, I saw some ducks on the other side of the river and two geese and one swan in the grass on the other side of the river.
When I was on my way back home, I saw Connor sitting on sage rock taking photos of something.
When I was nearing home, I saw some juncos.
Why was there only one swan by the river?
Where are the other swans that I’ve seen on the river?
Why was the squirrel alarming?
