Fun Birds This Week

Earlier this week I was out working in the yard when I heard a chirp, chirp, chirp that reminded me of a White-throated sparrow so I stopped what I was doing and looked for the source of the sound. It took me a few minutes to find the source. the source was a White-throated sparrow so I came back inside and got my camera then went back out there and took some photos of it then got back to work on the bird feeder I was working on. as I worked out there that afternoon I continued to see and take photos of the White-throated sparrow.

Later this week I was up Gavan hill doing some stuff and saw some Red-breasted nuthatchs. It had been a few years since I last saw them. I took some photos of them and went back to what I was doing.

Sea Otter

This morning when I went down to the park, it was cloudy and there was a light sprinkle.
When I was walking by the harbor, I saw a Sea Otter close to the rocks in the water, it wast moving and I wondered if it was dead for a moment, then I saw it move a little and I figured it was sleeping.
I watched it for a little bit, wondering weather or not I wanted to go back home and get my camera. I eventually decided to go back and get it, though I didn’t really expect the Sea Otter to still be there when I got back.
I ran some of the way back home to get my camera, but walked fast on the way back.
When I got back, the Sea Otter hadn’t moved far, but it was closer to the docks.
I went down onto the rocks to get better photos. While I was doing that someone walked by and didn’t seem to notice the otter, and just a few moments after that when I wasn’t looking, I think the otter bumped into one of the boats, because it moved itself away from the docks and closer to where I was.
A little bit after that, it rolled around a few times, and then went back to laying on its back. After that, I got a few more photos and then went back up to finish my walk.

This Mornings Bird Walk

This morning I got up and walked down to the beach to drop off a few fish heads then I walked over to the airport.

On my way over the bridge I spotted and saw that there was a couple of big ships in the channel. One of them had a Canada flag and I did not see a flag on the other one.

I looked at the gulls as best I could from the bridge then I headed towards the airport.

I walked down the old airport road and looked around. I did not see many birds so I turned around and started heading home. As I was not my way home I saw someone that I knew so I stopped and we talked for a bit then I finished my way home.

Park

Today when I went down to the park for the second time, it was cloudy and high tide.
When I was on the beginning part of the boardwalk by Sage Rock, I saw two people talking about a baseball cap that was placed on a rock just barely out of the water.
When I was at the beginning of the park by the visitor center, I saw a squirrel run up a tree that was out in the open with a bunch of pinecones under it.
When I was at the battle site bench, I saw some sea gulls out in the water.
When I was on the side trail near the trail by the river, I saw some more sea gulls.
When I was on the trail by the river, I saw some sea gulls and ducks on the other side of the river.
When I was on my way back, I saw three boys, two of them were down where the hat was and one of them was up on the boardwalk. Apparently the one on the boardwalk was the owner of the hat and had forgotten it there, or that’s what I got from what I heard while I was walking past.
When I was out on the breakwater, I saw a great blue heron on the harbor side of the breakwater and some people fishing in a boat on beach side.
Why was the squirrel at the tree out in the open?
Why was the heron on the harbor side?
Why were those people fishing so close with a boat?

Fun Birds Seen So Far This Week

Earlier this week I was fishing down at Sage Beach when dad stopped by and told me that there was a Western Tanager that was hanging around by Kelly street and the park. I packed up and headed that way. When I got down there I saw a couple of people, that I knew, walking up towards me to look for the bird. We walked back towards where one of them had found the Tanager. Just as we got there I saw a large yellow bird fly up into a Hemlock tree across the road. I looked through my binoculars and saw that it was the Western Tanager. As I reached for my camera it flew up and landed on a power line. I was able to get some photos of it before it flew away. We walked up Kelly street and looked for it for a bit, when I spotted it back on the power line. We watched and took pictures of it for a bit more then the other people left and I headed home to clean the fish I had caught. Later that day I went back down to the beach and fished a bit more. While I was fishing I saw the Black Turnstones and Surfbirds, that had been on Sage rock, take off like they had seen a raptor. I looked around but I did not see any raptors that would scare the shorebirds like that, and eventually they came back and landed on Sage rock. A few minutes later though they took off again like they had before and this time I saw a Peregrine falcon chase them. I got my camera and took some photos of the Peregrine as it chase the shorebirds. It chased the shorebirds for a bit but did not get one and eventually gave up and flew towards the forest. I fished a bit more then headed home. On my way home I saw some Warblers, Kinglets and Chickadees behind the Hames center. I looked through them as best I could to see if I could find any unusual birds, as I did I found a Pacific-slope flycatcher, which is common during the summer but it seemed like it was getting a bit later for them. I sent dad a text and he came down and saw it. After that I headed home. The day after I saw the Tanager I walked down to the park and looked around. I didn’t see anything I that surprised, until I was walking back across the top of the beach and a Warbling vireo flew in and landed in some alders by me. I took some pictures of it and texted dad then took some more pictures of it. I tried to keep track of it until dad got down there but it was not easy, and as it was it flew back further into the trees just as he got down there, I would find it then I would lose it then I would find it again and then I would lose it again. When dad got there it flew with some Warblers that were there too, and flew with them for a while then it turned and flew back towards us and landed further back in the alders. I looked for it with dad for a flew moments then I continued around the park. When I got home I asked dad if he had seen it, he said he had only heard it.

park

Today when I went down to the park, it was cloudy and a little bit breezy.
When I was out on the breakwater, I saw a fish jump and I also saw some people fishing from the beach.
When I was on my way off the breakwater, I took some photos of the fish in the water and not long after I got off the breakwater, I saw some crows and took a photo of one of them.
When I was nearing the park, I saw some harlequins and a cormorant out in the water, and the cormorant had something in its mouth. I also saw a seal out past Sage Rock.
When I was nearing the battle site bench, I saw a squirrel eating a pinecone on a lower branch of a tree.
When I was at the battle site bench, I saw some seagulls and it was mostly high tide.
When I was on the trail by the river, I saw some more sea gulls on the other side of the river and some dead fish.
When I was on my way back home, there were less people fishing at the beach then there had been before.
What did the cormorant have in its mouth?
Why were there less people fishing?
Why was the squirrel on a lower branch of the tree?

This Mornings Outing

This morning I got up and headed down to the beach to fish for Cohos.  When I got down there, several people were already down there so I went to a different spot a little further down.  I fished for a while, and saw a lot of fish jump, but I never got one to bite. I fished for a bit longer then headed home.

Once I got home I set my fishing stuff down and head to the airport. On my way to the airport I stopped by a fishing store and got a couple of lures to use for Cohos.

I walked over the bridge and around the airport. I saw what I think was a snipe, I also saw some Cormorants on the other side of the tarmac on some rocks. On the side of the tarmac that I was on I saw Song, Fox and Lincoln’s Sparrows, along with an Orange-crowned warbler and a few Ruby-crowned kinglets. I looked around a bit more then headed home.

Park

Today when I went down to the park for the first time, it was mostly cloudy, but there was some sun.
Just after I’d left the house, I saw a black cat that is sometimes around the neighborhood with a yellow and green colored warbler hanging limply in its mouth. It walked past me and behind a fence to were I could not see it.
When I was on on the boardwalk by Sage Rock, I saw some fuzzy black and orange caterpillars on a Crabapple tree, they’ve been there for a while, but there seem to be fewer of them now.
When I was nearing the battle site bench, I saw some sea gulls and a great blue heron out on the beach.
When I was at the battle sight bench, it was low tide and I saw some sea gulls, ravens and an eagle out on the beach.
When I was on the trail by the river, I saw three juvenile eagles all in the same area across the river. One of them flew off and scared away some of the sea gulls that were there.
When I was on my way back home, I saw some robins in someone’s yard.
How did the cat catch the warbler?
How much longer will the fuzzy caterpillars be there?
Why did the one eagle fly away?
