Do you have any ideas about how you might change it to make it be able to carry more weight?

thank for the question
No I do not.
When I was about your age I too made a raft with my friends and hauled it to a lake with my wagon. It took a few different tries to get it to float. Our first attempt was just using wood like you did, I thought that wood floats well so it should carry me too. After changing into dry clothes my friends and I decided to try again and we had to think about what else floats, what could we add to our raft design that would allow it to float better and carry us. So what, besides wood, floats? Places to look: the docks, piers, boats, skiffs, etc.. What do they use that helps them to float better? Good luck

how big was your raft? did you do it in shallow water or deep water ?I will get some big pieces of foam and lash them all to together and lash a piece of wood for me to sit on and paddle.

Thank for the comment
You are welcome Stan for seeing the pictures.
Hi Connor,
It is so great that you have pictures of your raft. That was a great first try at making your own boat. I was wondering what animals float well and why? Do you have sea otters where you live? They seem to do a lot of floating and not only that, when they are floating on their backs they can hold mollusk on their stomach and pound on them with a rock. Ducks float well, also, hawks and eagles do not. Wonder why?
Thank you for the story,
Cindy

thank for the question
You are welcome. hawks and eagles float just a different way .termites and seals and wales and gull and Cormorants float to.Pelican and Loons float to.thank you.
I put my raft in fresh water, it was deep enough to cover my head. It is harder to float in Fresh water. My friends and I experimented with balance as well, our second raft came in several pieces and we learned what pieces were most important in order for us to stay on the raft as it floated, my friend could attest to that as it was he who needed to change his clothes after that test. I think our final raft ended up being almost 10 feet long, it took many trips to get all the materials to the lake. We paddled around on it for a while and it could hold about 5 people at one point without tipping, that was the other thing we had to do, was to find a way to keep it from tipping one way or another. Most of this was done without out parents knowing, when they did find out finally, they were impressed
I hope you keep trying, it is really worth all the effort when you can sit on it and enjoy looking all around you out on the water, and not be sinking

thanks for the comment .
I will keep on trying until it works .this time I found some thicker peaces of wood.
