On Wensday April 8 and Thursday April 9 2015 The first migratory shore birds showed up at Sitka national historical park. The mane migratory shore bird that showed up was Calidris alpina common name for Calidris alpina is Dunlin. I saw the Dunlins on Thursday April 9 but I heard that on Wensday April 8 I heard that a big group of shore birds where down there but they weren’t down their the day before witch would make since because on Wensday their was a big rain storm that came through so it most likely landed to wait out the storm and feed before they continued their migration north most of the Dunlins that were there were in there winter plumage still there was one in there that had its summer plumage on. There was about 4-6 Dunlins, 50-150 Surfbirds, 10-15 rock sandpipers, and 4-6 black turnstone it was exciting. Arenaria melanocephala Black turnstone Aphriza virgata Surfbird Calidris alpina Dunlin Calidris ptilocnemis rock sandpiper
