black chinned hummingbird

Today rowan, grams, grandpa and I went to watch Fred. He  is a hummingbird bander. Today he was banding black chinned hummingbirds which I have never seen before, so it was interesting to watch happen.  Hummingbirds are the only type of birds in the world that can hover with out wind and hover like a helicopter to get out of their nests. We only caught  two recaptures and both of them were from earlier this  summer when he banded there. I got to work the traps some. It was fun to catch some hummingbirds today.  I hope that I can band birds some time when I am older. I also got to let some go. That was also exciting to do. The black chinned hummingbird, like other hummingbirds,  females average bigger then the males. Also  like most other hummingbirds the baby average smaller then their parents.blackchinndhummingbird7 blackchindhummingbirds

WOW!!! what excellent photos and information, Connor! I’ve never seen a black-chinned hummingbird either. (you might want to check on your spelling of the word ‘either’.) I love you! thanks for keeping up on the blog 🙂
