Well yesterday I took the same type of photo that my dad took twelve years ago on the same farm at the same nest site. the nest site is above our garage door. A couple of half inch thick and two inches wide boards support the barn swallow nest. Each year they use the same nest over and over again. They also take out the lining from the old nest and put in new lining and add more mud to the nest .They have two broods of chicks every year .They are probably the same family because they are known to come back to the same spot time after time .They live an average of four years but the oldest barn swallow on record in north America is eight years old.
My photo is the top one; Dad’s is the bottom one. His was taken in 2002 and mine was taken in 2014.
Oh my gosh, Connor! That’s brilliant! I was there when your dad took that photo. I really like how close up yours is. love, mommy
