Weather Observations
I’m headed to Piper Island Cabin for the weekend. It’s about 30 miles northwest of Sitka in Fish Bay. Based on the weather reports I have seen lately, there should be a fair bit more snow there than there is here. Hopefully I will have a chance to do a little hiking and/or exploration.

Over the last couple of days I have noticed that the evergreen broad leaf plants seem to respond to the cold. The leaves on the rhodedendrons are normally fairly flat, but now they are very much curled. The ground dogwood leaves seem thinner and more fragile than usual. Despite the cold, the spring flowers seem to be doing okay. I saw a daffodil getting ready to bloom. It was not open yet, but the yellow was showing. I imagine that the next time it warms up enough, it will open up.
