Afternoon Break at Sealing Cove

Heavy clouds with occasional showers. A break in the clouds allowed some sun to shine through this afternoon. Temperatures in the 40s.

I made it out for a drive this afternoon. My timing was good to catch a brief bit of nice light as the clouds broke enough for the sun to shine through.

A Belted Kingfisher perched on a piling at the Sealing Cove boat haulout that put it close to eye level with me as I sat in my car nearby. It didn’t mind me sitting there in my car with my camera pointed at it, so that was nice.

I noticed a Double-crested Cormorant on Swan Lake. They’re mostly on salt walter around here, but do occasionally show up on the lake.

From Sea Mart parking lot I checked a flock of Black Turnstones, but didn’t find any Surfbirds or Rock Sandpipers in the mix.

I spent a good chunk of the day working on photojournal archive related tasks. Primarily, I finished up publishing last February’s entries. I enjoyed revisiting some of my activities, including my trip to Tucson, a bike ride out Green Lake Road, and be reminded of something I would like to check on.

Significant parts of two days isn’t too bad of a pace for catching up, but I don’t think I can sustain that pace. I’ll need to turn my attention to other projects soon.

This isn’t the first winter I’ve worked on catching up with photojournals. In the past I’ve often managed to publish in January sometimes keeping it up even into May, while also filling a bit of the backlog (usually the early winter and fall preceding, but sometimes other times).

One difference this year is I feel like investing in updating my workflow has allowed for more efficient publishing. That (maybe) should bode well for keeping up this year, and hopefully for publishing the backlog over time.
