Eliason Harbor Walk

Overcast with not much rain during the day. Temperatures in the low 40s. Moderate winds, but much calmer than previous days.

I went out late this morning. After a brief check at the channel, I went to Eliason Harbor and walked out to the far float.

I had vague hopes of seeing the Yellow-billed Loon, but low expectations.

I did get nice looks at Common Loons. There were several in the channel.

Overall, there were not too many birds. I suspect there may have been more taking shelter among the floats when the wind was up.

Song Sparrow
Song Sparrows are resident in the harbors, where the utilize floats and boats. This one was observed at Elisaon Harbor in Sitka, Alaska

I noticed at least two Song Sparrows. Maybe that’s lower than normal. I’m not sure if we’re having a down winter for Song Sparrows, or if they’re simply staying low and quiet during these darkest days of the year.

Beyond the trip to the harbor, I made trips to the store. Things were busy both at Sea Mart and downtown. No doubt I wasn’t the only one doing last minute Christmas shopping.
