Overcast and warm. Temperatures up into the low 50s at times. Windy later in the day.
It was the first day I didn’t have a lot going on in nearly two weeks. As such, I focused on taking care of some things that I had been putting off.
Among them was delivering two prints that someone had purchased at last weekend’s market (they wanted 11×17 versions of images I had only printed only printed smaller to that point).
While out, I also drove out to Starrigavan, where a male Hooded Merganser had been reported.
I was able to see it, though not especially close. Hooded Mergansers often seem to be on the wary side. Sometimes if they hang around Swan Lake or Totem Park for an extended period of time they become a little more accepting of attention.
Although temperatures were fairly warm today, I did notice icy patches on board walk at Starrigavan. I think there must have been some clearing early, but it was overcast by the time it was solidly daylight.
This afternoon I worked on cleaning and organizing upstairs. I made space for my brother to have a place to sleep, but not me. Fortunately, I still have some time to get more done tomorrow. Not a lot of time, since I’ll spend much of it doing the Christmas Bird Count.
This evening they were doing more rock work. Not much was in the water, but there was a bit. They made enough progress today, I don’t think there really needs to be an observer for that work from here on out. It ended up being a late night. They had told me yesterday they would start around 6pm. They apparently changed plans, and didn’t show up until closer to 7pm. They wrapped up shortly before 11:30pm.
It was quite windy while I was out there. Fortunately, I could observe from inside.
Driving home I could see stars, and the temperature was 48F (according to my car).
