Moon Rise and Holiday Market Day One

Mostly sunny skies. Chilly. Light winds.

I spent most of the day inside at the Made in Sitka Holiday Market.

Full Moon

I was getting my stuff loaded up when I noticed the nearly full moon dropping low. It might have been nice to try and chase down a photo, but I settled for a basic shot from my house.

Since it didn’t start until 10am, I did have enough time to make a couple of quick stops while moving my car after I had unloaded my stuff.

Gulls and Mallards were taken advantage of a little bit of open water at Swan Lake. A Hooded Merganser was right near the shore.

The channel had birds as well, including some Common Mergansers close to shore.

The sun was hitting the tops of the higher peaks on the island as I went back to the market.

The market felt a little bit on the slow side at times, but print sales ended up being right in line with my sales at these markets last year. This year I was also selling calendars, so my overall revenue was up.

I’ve still got a long way to go to break even on this year’s calendars. At this point I think it’s less than even chances that I do. I do have a better sense for next year, though. I think I can get started a little earlier (perhaps even early enough to have them at a summer market or two). A table at the WhaleFest market would probably be a good idea as well, though I don’t want to be stuck at it for the whole three days of WhaleFest.

Since there’s a second day of the market tomorrow, I was able to leave my stuff in place.

That was handy, since it allowed me to catch the nearly full moon coming up behind the Sisters.

I’ve only done a very quick review, but don’t think I got a shot I’ll like as much as the one that’s one of my best selling prints.

I thought I had observing work this evening, but when I got out there, all the earth/rock moving equipment was shut down. I found out they had had an equipment failure. It’s just as well, as it would have made for a full evening on top of a full day. Instead, I was able to get my radio show done and be home before 7 (instead of closer to 10).

While I was out the road, I did take a picture of Cross Mountain in the moonlight. I thought about spending longer at it, but decided it was better to get going so I could have a chance of getting to bed at a decent hour.

Connor went up to Bear Lake today. He said it took him only 2 hours to get to the lake. That seems pretty fast to me. Maybe I can get in good enough condition to make that pace, but it would require some dedicated and consistent effort.
