Calm and Quiet Watch at Sawmill Cove

Overcast, temperatures into the 30s. Calm.

I was up very early to take Kitty to the airport for the 6am flight.

Stars shone bright with a crescent moon in the 4:30am sky.

I went back to bed, and by the time I got up again shortly before 8am, clouds had moved over.

I spent the day at Sawmill Cove. Conditions were calm again.

They made more progress today, getting all four pilings in the first row (of 5) down to the level where the final section will be welded on. We’re to have the day off tomorrow while they do the welding.

Plenty of birds visited the cove while I was watching, though not as many as yesterday.

A Red-necked Grebe surfaced not far from where I was stationed on the industrial park dock. I noticed it tilt its head several times as if to look up. Curious, I looked up and saw an eagle flying over.

It was a quiet day for protected species. I did not see any. Just as well for the impact pile driving.
