Sun and Snow

Mostly sunny skies with very occasional light snow. Freezing early, warming to the mid-30s or so. Light winds.

Last night’s snow was enough to cover the ground, but there was not much accumulation.

I had a full morning with a call and spent time working on arrangements for the upcoming haul out observer work. The permit still isn’t fully finalized, but the folks are remain optimistic they can start later this week. We’ll see.

This afternoon I walked down to Swan Lake. The sun had dropped low enough the peninsula was in the shade. However, the Wood Ducks were there close to shore, and I made some photos.

Kitty arrived, and we went for a drive out to Starrigavan. The tide was up, but nowhere near as high as during my visits over the past few days.

The view across the estuary of snow covered trees and peaks, with blue sky above was very nice.

Back in town, we walked the west loop at Totem Park. She wanted to head home before sunset. As it’s setting at 3:45pm, we didn’t have a lot of time, so I didn’t stop to take as many photos as I otherwise might have.

With the forecast calling for freezing temperatures all week, I’m guessing Swan Lake will be frozen over by the weekend. I doubt it will be enough for people to skate on, since daytime highs are mostly predicted to be above freezing. However, there might be some opportunities to get a better look at the ducks as the available open water shrinks.
