Indoor Work, Outdoor Observations

Rain and heavy clouds early, becoming mostly cloudy with some sun during the afternoon. Calm winds, temperatures in the 40s.

This morning I focused on trying to figure out how to set up an order page for my calendars. I wanted it to be able to include a charge for shipping, ideally only for orders placed out of Sitka (presuming that in town folks could pick up, or I could drop off calendars).

It was more complicated than I expected, but eventually I figured out how to get part of what I wanted. The basic payment part was easy, having the shipping included was a little trickier. It only seemed to work for shipping to be included or not. I tried to set up a coupon to give to Sitka folks to make it free shipping. When I tried to use it in a test, a message popped up that the coupon was valid, but not applicable.

I gave up on it at that point.

I started to look into installing a different on-line store sort of thing on my site, but didn’t make it too far into that before calling it good.

I helped Kitty transport some stuff out to her place. The weather was pleasant. Swell was coming in through middle channel, but not bad. We were mostly going, so I didn’t even try to take pictures of much. I did manage a quick shot of a loon when we had slowed down coming back into the harbor.

I took pictures of another two loons from the Kelp Patch pullout out. None were good pictures, but all are adequate to work for keeping my my daily iNaturalist observation streak going.

Motivated by a couple of recent collections, I read up on Odontoschisma (a liverwort genus) this evening. I feel more comfortable giving an identification to one of the collections that was puzzling me. There’s another that I’m also thinking is Odontoschisma, and maybe O. denudatum, though I’ll need to look into it a little bit more.

Connor went hunting today. I was a little surprised to see him pulling back into the driveway before noon. He had found a doe in open forest not too far from the beach. He’s mostly had good fortune finding deer this fall.
