Heavy rain through most of the daylight hours. The sky lightened and the rain let up later in the afternoon. The sun even broke through briefly early this evening. Moderate winds and temperatures in the 50s.
I could hear the gusts of wind late last night. The peak gust overnight at the airport was 61mph between 2am and 3am.
I hoped the wind might push in some storm-petrels and headed out this morning earlier than I would have otherwise been up.
The wind had clearly dropped since last night, though there were still white caps coming across Crescent Bay, and lots of rain.
I saw gulls and kittiwakes but no storm-petrels on the bay or in the channel.

The water was calmer heading out Halibut Point Road. I noticed more Bonaparte’s Gulls today. This time out in front of the Channel Club as well as at Harbor Point.
Silver Bay was even calmer than it had been out the other way. It’s probable the wind continued to drop while I was out, so I’m not sure it had been that calm the whole time.
I didn’t find any storm-petrels.
The rain kept me from feeling too inspired to get out and look around. From 8am through 4pm, there was at least 0.1 inches of rain at the airport each hour. Rainfall peaked in the hour between noon and 1pm with 0.52 inches.
During the rest of the day I didn’t have any particular focus. I did some photo processing and worked on reducing my browser tabs. In some cases the latter meant watching videos or going down little rabbit holes that can chew up a fair chunk of time. For the most part what I spent the time on felt helpful or inspiring, for whatever that might be worth.
