Starrigavan and Silver Bay Stops

Mostly cloudy to partly sunny. Calm winds and temperatures in the 30s.

I drove out to Silver Bay to take a look, but didn’t go down on the dock. I only watched for a few minutes from the road before moving on.

Starrigvan Estuary and Peak 2880

I spent more time at Starrigavan. I wanted to walk down on the beach at Old Sitka still haven’t remembered to put the state parks sticker for this year on my car window. I parked along the road on the far side of the causeway and walked back to Old Sitka.

Herring Gull
Herring Gull at Starrigavan in Sitka, Alaska

Scanning a flock of gulls, I noticed my FOS Herring Gull.

Rivularia(?)
Possibly Rivularia atra or something related. A blue-green algae I’ve noticed growing on barnacles. Observed at Starrigavan beach in Sitka, Alaska

I was able to find some Rivularia(?) which I first noticed last year around this time. I still don’t have certainty about the name, but it was as close as I could find.

A Brown Creeper in a loose flock of chickadees and kinglets was the first I’ve seen this year.
