Overcast early, becoming clear by mid-morning. Slightly warmer and windier.
Clouds overnight kept temperatures from dropping out of the high 20s, which in turn allowed the sun to warm things up a bit more than on previous days.
I’m not sure the winds were actually much stronger than on Sunday. It may have just been the direction they came from made them more apparent at my house and where I went this afternoon.
I did check out Silver Bay. Winds seemed similar there as on Sunday, with perhaps a bit more snow blowing off the peaks.
White caps covered much of the waters beyond the breakwater on the north side of town.
I went as far as Kerr’s Island, where I poked around a bit on the beach.
I was curious if I might find some of the stuff I’m calling Rivularia atra (pending confirmation/correction). I found one bit that I think was it, but didn’t bother to pull out my magnifiers (which would made made the search easier).
A steady stiff breeze kept the whitecaps up, but it didn’t hit the shore so hard. However, it was punctuated at times by stronger gusts. A couple of these hit while I was one the rocks. They made it difficult to stay stable.
The rocky shore just south of the Sandy Beach parking lot was more in the lee of the wind. I found a convenient rock to lean against and enjoy the sun on my face. I’ll have to try and remember the rock, as it was the right size and angle to make a very nice backrest.
