I didn’t spend much time outside today. Just made a round of checking for birds this afternoon. As the light was fading, I moved a car which meant a walk around Japonski Island.
Before heading out, I paused to watch the junco flock feeding in the yard. I was happy to see an American Tree Sparrow. I was pretty sure I had seen one the other day, but it was nice to confirm it with a clear view.
I checked the Lance Drive and Eliason Loop areas while out. I was looking for a Steller’s Jay (one had been seen in that area this week, and I’ve seen a number of them around there before). I also checked for Eurasian Collared-Doves. They’ve become scarce in recent years, but lower Lance Drive neighborhood is a place where they’ve been seen more often than other areas.
I saw my first Pacific Loons of the year. Four of them were moving together, diving repeatedly as they made their way along. They were not too far off the shore by the kelp patch pullout.
I spent most of my time this morning finishing up a calendar featuring mostly sunsets and moonsets. My mom had been interested in that as an alternative to the bird calendar I had already made (my dad has one of those, and they didn’t need two of them).
It featured pictures from 2022. Theoretically they’ll all get posted to this sight eventually. I’ll probably make a specific post like I did for the bird calendar, though.
