Clearing Weather

Cloudy early becoming partly cloudy to mostly sunny. Temperatures into the low 60s.

Yesterday’s high of 66F broke the record for the date. The previous high of 65F was set in 1964.

I went out the road this afternoon. I had intended to walk around the estuary loop and see if there might be a Swamp Sparrow around.

Not far past the shelter the trail was closed.

I drove around to the Nelson Logging road side hoping to at least make it to the little spur. Unfortunately the trail was closed before there as well.

I spoke with some folks who were watching for bears from the bridge. (I noticed a few familiar vehicles and faces from visits to look for/at bears last year.)

Apparently at least a couple of bears have been active along creek in recent days. One of the folks had seen them earlier in the afternoon.

I stopped briefly at the golf course, but decided not to walk around when I saw people were golfing.

My final stop before going home was the path of hope. I didn’t spot a Pied-billed Grebe, but someone else reported seeing it today. I did see the American Coot when I drove by the peninsula on my way home.

As the sun was dropping low this evening, I made one last outing. This time to old airport road.

On a previous stop at the old long term parking area I thought it looked like they were removing the piles of rock/dirt from the area across the ditch but still outside the fence.

Today I walked the road to get a better look and confirmed that much of it has already been removed. The corner of the lagoon is now over half filled.

I got at least brief looks at a couple of Orange-crowned Warblers, a couple of Yellow Warblers, and one male Wilson’s Warbler.

Leaving game night at the Beak this evening a light fog made for interesting light from a waxing gibbous moon and the lights on the bridge. I was briefly tempted to try looking for interesting/atmospheric photos.

The Heermann’s Gull was reported again today. Where wasn’t specified, but I’m guessing at the park. I didn’t see the report until late, so will try to follow up tomorrow with the person who reported it.
