The May 22nd show featured a conversation with Kelcey Simic, Aurora Taylor, and Ellen Chenoweth.
Kelcey is finishing up her Junior year at Sitka High School and participated in this year’s Rural Alaska Students in One-Health Research (RASOR) program. She spoke about her experience in the program and her project comparing the ages of clams collected from Starrigavan in 2019 and 2021.
Aurora is a fisheries biologist with the Sitka Tribe of Alaska who served as Kelcey’s mentor for the project. She also spoke about other projects she’s involved with at the tribe, including the Klag Bay fish weir.
Ellen is the Director for the RASOR program and offered an overview of how it works, and how students can apply to be a part of it.
