More snow fell overnight, and continued in extended showers throughout the day.
Although forecast implied very little would accumulate, we ended up with several additional inches, up to 9in on my railing before 3pm, and a foot deep as I’m writing this late this evening.
The wind remained calm throughout the day, but later this evening it picked up a bit during a snow shower, and some of the snow that had collected on the utility lines fell off.
Rowan told me she almost got hit by a clump of falling snow in the park, and she noticed a branch down and a tree leaning that may have been impacted by the weight of snow.
There aren’t good snow depth records for Sitka, so it’s hard to say when the last time we had this much snow was, but I think it’s been at least 3 or 4 years.
Connor doesn’t have much snow driving experience, so I suggested he shovel the driveway after lunch (which was a bit late, due to a call I was on), and we would go out for a bit.
By the time he finished, another snow shower had started, but the radar made it seem like it wouldn’t last very long. It ended up going for 30 minutes or more. During that time, an additional inch or two fell, and Connor recleared the drive quickly.
The roads remained unplowed, but we didn’t have much trouble getting over to the airport. Connor briefly got stuck on the short connector to old airport road, but was able to get going with a little coaching.
