Rowan and I spent some time out looking for birds today. After not seeing anything unusual in the Channel, we went out to Starrigavan. The tide was up pretty high, reaching the full flood while we were there. I checked along the upper part of the estuary and did not find any unusual sparrows. While I was pishing a couple of female or young Red-winged Blackbirds popped up from lower in the estuary and joined a male by one of the isolated alders along the upper part. A little later I saw them working the edge of the water where it flooded up among the estuary grasses and sedges.
Later in the day I found out a couple of other people had seen a phalarope or two in the channel, so they’re still around at least. I did not hear of anyone seeing the Sabine’s Gull.
