Indian River Valley

Today I helped out with a visiting class that was going for a walk up Indian River trail. They were from University of San Francisco (if I remember correctly) and doing a course in cooperation with the Sitka Sound Science Center. I’m not exactly sure how it works, but over the past couple of years there have been several similar courses from various schools. The students had previously been at (heavily impacted by logging) Starrigavan Valley and one of their tasks was to consider how it differed from (minimally impacted by logging) Indian River valley. We went as far up as the tributary bridge after the second main bridge as a class. Then most of the class wanted to continue on to the falls. I ended up going with the smaller group of folks that turned around. We did make one side trip to visit a bear hot-foot trail. I’ll write up some of the other specific observations separately.
