A Snowy Owl was reported from the airport this morning. It had been in the long-term parking lot, but shortly before I arrived it had flown off across the runway. I was able to spot it on the other side of the runway and get a photograph before it took off a few minutes later (unfortunately I didn’t see where it flew). The airport offers an open habitat Snowy Owls are fond of, but of course the folks at the airport are not fond of birds (especially large birds) hanging out on or near the runway, so I imagine they will try to frighten it off. It might be worth checking the surrounding areas (Alice Island, old Airport Road, and the long-term parking) over the next few days.
