Sitka Photos for 16 January 2007

I have not figured out whether this is a first year Thayer's Gull or a first year Glaucous-winged Gull. Observed 16 January 2007 at Eliason Harbor.

Dark-eyed Junco visiting feeders observed 16 January 2007.

This Long-tailed Duck was repeatedly diving near the outer transient float at Eliason Harbor. Seen 16 January 2007.

The Long-tailed Duck caught a spot prawn (Pandalus platyceros) to eat. Observed 16 January 2007.

I am not entirely certain about this identification. The bird seemed less bulky than many Common Loons. Perhaps it's a first year bird? Observed 16 January 2007 at Eliason Harbor.

Though they had their heads tucked, both of these ducks were keeping an eye on me. Observed 16 January 2007 at Swan Lake.

Sharp-shinned Hawk observed chasing birds at a feeder on 16 January 2007.

The sun broke out on the snow covered lower slopes of Mt. Verstovia.

Clouds linger on the side of Gavan Hill.
