Weather Observations

Skies were clear this morning when I got up. The carport thermometer said the temperature was in the upper 30s, but there were places with frost on the ground. There seemed to be a light breeze over the water, but I did not really notice it on shore. The sky was clear all the way to the horizon as I went for a walk around 8:30am. I had hopes that the sunny skies would persist through the day. As I walked to the park, I noticed high overcast to the south. The clouds moved northward and by mid-afternoon it was completely overcast over town. Bright sky near the horizon leads me to think that the overcast does not extend too far off-shore. As of now (late afternoon) there is no discernable breeze moving the trees around the house. Forecast for tomorrow is rain.

Update: The overcast apparently did not extend offshore significantly, as the evening’s sunset was something to see. Intense pink light illuminated the sky behind Mt. Edgecumbe and extended along the horizon towards the Southwest. The peaks of the Pyramids were also bathed in the light of the setting sun. Unfortunately I did not notice this was happening until it was near its peak and by the time I got down to the beach the best had passed. Even still, what I was able to see was amazing.
