Winter Robins

January 6, 2006

It was getting close to dark on this heavy overcast day and the bird seen here was staying near the tops of the trees. The poor light made it difficult for me to identify this bird at first. This difficulty was compounded by the fact that I was not really expecting to see a robin.

Eagles and Murres

January 6, 2012

This week we got to witness some excitement in the park involving Bald Eagles and Common Murres. Monday I was out on the tideflats looking for a Rock Sandpiper (which I didn’t find) when many of the birds between me and the water flushed away from the water. I looked up and saw an eagle

Sunset View of Mt. Edgecumbe

January 6, 2016

Thinking there might be another colorful sunset and deciding I had recovered enough from recent illness to try and work on conditioning, I was motivated to get up to the first viewpoint along Verstovia trail. As it turned out, after getting started a little later than I intended, I found I was not quite as

The outflow event began today, with blustery winds and chilly temperatures. Fortunately the brunt of the wind does not hit my house, but I did notice there were some strong gusts occasionally. Airport Snow

Airport Snow

January 6, 2020

More snow fell overnight, totaling three inches or so. There were occasional (mostly light) snow showers during the day, but some extensive stretches of sunshine, as well. Winds were mercifully calm during my time outside this afternoon, and the low angle sun felt nicely warm when I was facing it. I had a call that

Quest for a White Song Bird

Quest for a White Song Bird

January 6, 2023

Overcast with rain. Temperatures around 40. Light winds. Calls this morning meant I didn’t get out until later. After checking many of the usual places closer to town, I went out to the industrial park. I had recently posted on Facebook about some of the unusual birds that have been around so far this year.

Wind and Rain

Wind and Rain

January 6, 2025

Overcast, warm and windy, with rain developing this afternoon. Today was another short day for outside time. I didn’t notice the wind much this morning when I was inside. It may have been blowing, but either way, it had certainly picked up by early this afternoon. I noticed sculpted looking asperitas clouds, though they had
